
AUTUMN IN THE SCOTTISH HIGHLANDS
Monday, 20 October - Friday, 24 October, 2025.
Staying at the SALUTATION HOTEL, which is situated in the heart of the historic city of PERTH, and is one of the oldest hotels in Scotland, with all modern facilities. The hotel is central and is minutes from the River and the pedestrianised shopping area. It has 84 bedrooms all with TV, hairdryer, tea/coffee making facilities. The restaurant is on the first floor, and is light and airy with a view onto the main street. We are booked in for help yourself Scottish Breakfast, and help yourself Carvery style Evening Dinner with 3 courses with 3 choices per course, jugs of water on the table and tea and coffee afterwards. The Hotel has a lift. There is a bar and it is situated on the ground floor. This time of year in the Scottish Highlands, AUTUMN is at its most glorious, with the trees at their best in glorious colour.
MONDAY - We travel via the motorways, making a comfort stop at TEBAY SERVICES, one of the nicest services, we make a further comfort stop at HAMBLETON SERVICES, then continue on our journey to PERTH, and the 3 STAR SALUTATION HOTEL.
On arrival at the hotel, the porters will take your luggage to your room. Evening dinner in the Hotel Restaurant.
TUESDAY - Breakfast in the restaurant and we meet the coach, after breakfast and set off on our days excursions to the beautiful GLAMIS CASTLE, which is set in the heart of the Highlands.
Glamis Castle is known as the most beautiful castle in Scotland, and was the childhood home of the Queen Mother, Princess Margaret was born here during a ferocious storm. The castle has been on a grand journey through Scottish history for over 600 years. Once host to Mary, Queen of Scots and it is said it inspired one of Shakespeare’s most famous plays “Macbeth”. On arrival we meet a tour guide and we are taken around the Castle. There are quite a few stone steps on our journey round, from floor to floor. After the tour you will have time to visit the beautiful gardens, visit the Café and the shop. From here we return to our Hotel.
WEDNESDAY - Breakfast in the restaurant, and we meet the coach, after breakfast for a day excursions in the Scottish Highlands, our first visit will be to BLAIR ATHOL DISTILLERY, where you can breathe in the fresh clean Scottish air, alongside the refreshing greenery of the forests.
We are met by a guide who will take us on a tour of the distillery, after the tour you have time to visit the shop or try a cuppa in the café.
After our visit to the distillery, we make our way to PITLOCHARY. We drop you in the coach park and you can explore Pitlochry at your leisure. There are plenty of cafes and restaurants, plus fabulous shops. For those who are interested, and it is well worth a visit just a 10 minute walk from the coach park is PITLOCHRY DAM CENTRE AND SALMON LADDER, which opened in January, 2017 and tells the story of the amazing engineering feats that first brought hydro electricity to the Highlands in 1950. Situated on the banks of the River Tummel which was dammed flooding the then Highland games field to form Loch Faskally, the centre features a gift shop and café with jaw dropping views of Pitlochry Dam and Loch Faskally.
From here we return to our Hotel.
THURSDAY - Breakfast in the restaurant, and we meet the coach, after breakfast for a day excursions to THE BOTANICAL GARDENS AT ST. ANDREWS, which is set in the heart of St. Andrews. The gardens offer woodland walks, meadows, ponds, and a rhododendron glade, places to rest and a friendly welcome. From here the coach will take us into St. Andrews and you have time to explore this beautiful seaside town.
We meet the coach later in the day to return to our Hotel.
FRIDAY - Full breakfast and we meet the coach for our return journey home. Our first stop will be at GRETNA GREEN, home of the runaway weddings. Visit the museum, the shop and try whiskey tasting. We continue our journey home making a short stop at a Services, when Rob will give you estimated arrival home times.
PRICE PER PERSON: £560.00 in Twin, Double Rooms.
SINGLE ROOMS: £622.00.
Bookings are taken over the telephone, followed by £50.00 per person deposit. With final payment 6 weeks prior to departure date.
INSURANCE: it is advisable to take out your own insurance to cover for cancellation due to illness.
